A Day in the Life of an Englishman in Portugal

The ASUS Skype phone

Work have bought this beast of techie beauty, and I got to try it out (“test it”) before I hand it over to our IT department. Thank you Eduardo! And now I am in love. Not with Eduardo, but with the phone. £188 well spent.

I knew nothing about this product before trying it. It has a rechargeable battery and wireless connectivity (alongside Ethernet), so is truly mobile. Wireless is wireless – it can be a flaky technology. Not with this though. It worked first time. I entered by Skype user name and password using the excellent on screen (non touch though) keyboard.

It then took me straight to my contacts list.

Functionally the Skype usage is the same as the software version, without the ability to send files. Not sure about chat, didn’t try that. I called my brother and the video quality and sound quality was very good.  A little bit of picture breakup on occasion, but no dropped call. All in all, 5 out 5, well worth owing one. Might even treat myself. Here are a few other photos. Seeeexy

I am a not so gently ageing Englishman, discovering the joys of living somewhere new and not slightly confusing. Portugal is a delightful place to live. People are happy, the weather is hot and the sky is so blue.

  1. Nought. And it is bulky, you wouldn’t carry it around in your briefcase. It is it’s simplicity and ease of use that makes it stand out. maybe we should get Mum one?!!

  2. looks very cool.
Exactly the sort of thing most business folk who travel should use.
What does it do as far as photos and smart phone functions like email?
