It’s 15 on the 18th

A gorgeous sunny Saturday. Sitting in the sun waiting for lunch.

It appears – sounds – our village has a team of cheer leaders. Hours of practice did not really deliver anything worthy of being called a tune. Have to admire their persistence though. Loved the lyrics:

Who stole our lovely Multibank machine?
You, you thieving burro, you stole our lovely Multibank machine.

Something like that…..

Who knicked our ATM?

I was asleep. Until 2 am, when there was a bang – explosion – accompanied by the sound of falling stuff, metal, rock, more. I almost jumped clean out of bed – difficult with my mobility problems. I was convinced, convinced, it was my heating boiler exploding. Flung open the window shutter, half expecting to see a column of flame and smoke engulfing my garden. But – nothing aside from the sound of a million dogs barking. WTF? Sticking my head out into the chilly night air I can see where the noise came from – and there is a man dressed in black clambering over a pile of broken concrete and steel where once stood our slightly scruffy but perfectly usable Multibank ATM. A shout, he looks up, jumps down, legs it. Sound of a car door slamming, engine revving, a tyre squeal and they are off. I just caught sight of the rear end of an Audi, and it is over.

You know I have CCTV. But the ATM is not covered by any camera. All I have is a blurry-cam video of a car whizzing past my house, just before the dastardly deed was done. The police arrive next morning, and take copies of the footage. Apparently there were two ATMs done in one night, using gas bottles as the explosive.

Now, a day later, the space where once stood the link of civilisation between Curvos and the modern world, is empty. The wall has been repaired, the rubbish removed, and a new gate installed in the car park. No idea why a new gate – it is 1 meter tall, not exactly a deterrent for anything other than the lame dogs that wander the night streets. Our village will never be the same. You can almost hear the women in black wailing their sorrows.

Who said life is a village is dull? Two years – one house fire and one loud larceny. Exciting enough for me!

Winter Sun

It is sunny but chilly – 8°. I feel the Euro freeze is coming our way. And, don’t mention the Euro.

Am lunching with Mr P at Bigosses to celebrate the day being a Sunday. Went shopping at Court Inglis yesterday. With a work friend. No names no packdrill – you can imagine the gossip at work – over 240 women. Was a lovely day though, had a small lunch to polish off a successful shop. Like a Debenhams store. Not too shabby.

Prophecy

You drinkers of whiskey – you drinkers of whiskey who like a gentle touch of Islay and want to try something new. I promise you, this is an investment not an expense.

“Bottled in a traditional style without chill filtration to deliver an authentic taste of 1938. Flavours of peat smoke, fresh cinnamon and spicy sea spray with tarry bonfire notes give way to hints of soft liquorice and nutmeg. Gold Best in Class at the 2010 IWSC Awards.”

You better believe it. It is lovely. L O V E L Y

Think its Cold?

As many know, we have a factory in Serbia. Temperatures there currently are -25 celcius rising to -14 by lunch time.

So, how cold is it where you are? Its freezing in Portugal. Almost hit zero last night….

Porto market

Alas – no photos. But this morning I went to a bricabrac in Porto, down near the river. It was full of rubbish, smelly people and stolen goods. I bought nothing but I Will go again. I did almost buy 6 rusty toy tin trucks. Wish I had now :-(
I went with C from work. She’s good company. Next time we are going somewhere a little more up market. That’s anywhere.
I did buy a lovely traditional blue and white jug.
